'I have long harboured the dream of cycling into the distance, but whilst the desirability of such a trip has gradually intensified, up until recently I perceived the feasibility as being low.'

GREAT CHAT! Has this been taken straight from our FYP project?

Im just building upon the great work of Burgess et al, placing another brick into the wall of knowledge.

Shapero will love it that his work is being applied in the field of long distance cycling.

"I don't think my mates realised just how serious I actually was about doing this, so obviously I won't be holding anybody to their drunken sponsorship offers"

Mate. What are you talking about???? Of course we knew you would do it. This was just credit card roulette part two and this time for a good cause. I will be very surprised if there is even one welcher in Team Tuborg (and yes, Handley, that includes you).

Otherwise, great blog. Keep up the good work.

If not, good luck and enjoy the ride!

Hi guys,
What a great trip you're on! If you don't have anything planned for Helsinki, I'd like to meet you and offer a place to crash...
Because I'm planning a ride up to Nordkapp this summer, so I could use some first-hand info :)
My place is a studio in the centre of the city, with a sofa and some matresses on the floor.
When getting closer to Helsinki, you can give me a call at 050-5011-587...

Cheers
Marko

Hi Pete!
One thing I was wondering about, as you encounter all these nice people etc: how do the car drivers treat you? Last summer in Oz I had a lot of drivers honking at me, but I was never sure if it was for encouragement or discouragement! "Godspeed & good luck, you biker!", or "Get off of the road, you buffoon!". What's your experience on the matter? :)

Godspeed...

Hi Pete,

I saw you on the MAG website! We thought we where mad doing the trip we have just completed! :0)

Best of luck with your trip.

Please email me if you think I could be of any assistance! I know we when down the west coast, but we did go across to Mozambique as well! I know some good places to stay in southern Africa! Especially just outside Cape Town, where I currently am!

I was going to put a link on our website to your website if that is ok? I will await your approval!

Once again, best of luck.

All the best,

Joel

Hi Marko

Yes I have had a few car drivers honking at me. I am not sure what they are expressing either, but I hope some are just saying hello. However on some busy Polish roads cars have honked then almost run me off the road, so i guess it is a warning in some scenario's.

Pete

Hi Pete,

I'm fascinated by your adventure. It sounds like a great mission! I hope all goes well for you on the way.

I've been looking at various cyclists' journals recently because I'm thinking of doing a cycle tour of Europe for 5 months during my gap year. I'm hoping to go around 10,000 miles to raise sponsorship for the Stroke Association, but at present it's just at the "crazy idea" stage!

I've got a few questions about your cycling trip. Firstly, what has been your daily budget whilst in Europe? Could you cope with food and accommodation for £10 a day? Is it easy to find food? Secondly, do you think it would be possible to do the expedition without a tent, just searching for accommodation on the way? Also do you have to get visas for all the different countries, is this expensive?

Thanks and best wishes,
James.

Hi Peter,
I hope you will remember me because I'm the Cop with motocycle in Konya, who wanted to change his motocycle (A Honda Varadero 1000cc) with your bike:P
I know that you have the power and faith to reach your target.
As I told you, did you visit Mevlana Museum?
Hope to hear from you.

Dear Peter's Mom and Dad,
I met Peter today in a gas station, when I realised that he was very thirsty, I ordered a glass of orange juice for him. I think he was happy to find someone who speaks English well. He was tired of cycling but he was in great condition, dont worry about him because we the Turks are known with our hospitality;)But after Turkiye I cant give you the same guarantie:D

Hi Pete

I'm following your progress with interest, you are doig fantastically. Be careful though - I can alreday see its getting harder for you in Turkey than in Northern Europe. We've pretty much finished our year in USA, we fly home in 9 days time. Its been really interesting, but I'll be glad to be home. Keep writing - its fscinating.
